The number of sessions required varies based on the severity of the rosacea and individual skin response. Typically, 4 sessions spaced 2 weeks apart are recommended for optimal results.
Most patients experience minimal discomfort during the procedure, often described as a warming sensation or slight rubber band snapping sensation. Any discomfort is usually mild and temporary.
Side effects are generally minimal and may include mild redness or swelling in the treated area, which usually subsides within a few hours to a couple of days.
Fotona rosacea treatment has little to no downtime. You can resume your normal activities immediately after the procedure.
Ideal candidates are individuals experiencing redness, flushing, or visible blood vessels associated with rosacea who are looking for a non-invasive solution.
What to expect – Rosacea
- Avoid Sun Exposure: Avoid excessive sun exposure, tanning beds, and sunburns for at least two weeks before your treatment. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily.
- Skin Care Products: Discontinue use of retinoids, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), and other exfoliating agents for at least one week before your treatment, or as advised by your provider.
- Accutane (isotretinoin): Discontinue use of Accutane (isotretinoin) for at least six months before considering laser treatment, as it can increase skin sensitivity.
- Cold sores: If you have a history of cold sores, it is recommended you take an oral antiviral agent starting immediately after treatment for a total of 4 days. Please contact your practitioner for a prescription if needed.
- Preparation: Your skin will be cleansed thoroughly before the treatment begins.
- Comfort Measures: You will be provided with protective eyewear to shield your eyes from the laser light. Depending on the specific procedure, a topical anesthetic may be applied to minimize discomfort.
- Duration: Each session typically lasts between 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the size and severity of the treated area.
- Immediate Aftercare: You may experience mild redness, swelling, or tenderness in the treated area, similar to a mild sunburn. This usually subsides within a few hours to a couple of days. You may apply a soothing moisturizer or aloe vera gel if needed.
- Sun Protection: Continue to avoid sun exposure and use a broad-spectrum, physical sunscreen with titanium or zinc oxide with SPF 30 or higher to protect your skin as it heals for at least 7-14 days. Wear a wide-brimmed hat whenever outside and exposed to sun.
- Gentle Skin Care: Avoid hot showers, saunas, and strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours post-treatment to prevent irritation. Use gentle skincare products and avoid exfoliants and retinoids for a few days.
